County Kerry played Harlequins at Tralee sports complex this afternoon. This was in Munsters most prestigious cup competion, the senior cup.
Kerry started batting and Alam Morshed (35) and Sean Rutland (11) had few problems and put on 40 for the first wicket.
There was no sign of the batting carnage that was to follow. The introduction by Harlequins of quality spin bowling was to prove Kerrys undoing.
Six Kerry batsmen failed to score and they collapsed to 58 all out. The excellent Jones taking 7 wickets for 8 runs.
If Harlequins thought it was going to be easy they had not reckoned an excellent fielding and cohesion in Kerrys fielding.
Khuram Iqbal bowled with speed and accuracy and his return of 6 for 12 reflected the confusion he caused Harlequins. Owais Gohar (2 for24) showed great spirit and Shakeel Dar sand Alam Morshed backed up their efforts.
Jones (29 not out) was the only Harlequins batsman to withstand the onslaught and they won with 2 wickets remaining.
An excellent effort from Kerry showed lots of things coming right, but batting against spin bowling is something that will need to improve.
