Kerry entertained Clare in the first round of the junior cup at Tralee sports complex this afternoon. On a damp day the ball was unlikely to run easily so runs would be at a premium.
Clare batted first and struggled from the start. Kerrys in form captain Owais Gohar (5 for 14) bowled a superb spell and his well disguised slower ball had Clare in a tangle. Khuram Iqbal (1 for 7) Yaqoob Ali (2 for7) and Alam Morshed (2 for 20) gave Clare no respite.Kerrys fielding again looked sharp.
Only one Clare player got in to double figures and they were out for 57.
In reply Kerry soon lost Jamie Carnegie and Niaal Riaz but Morshed(14) and Iqbal(32 not out) steadied the innings. The game stopped and started several times as some of the Clare players ignored the saying about the umpire being right, constantly arguing and saying they were not playing.
Kerry won by 6 wickets and progress to round 2.
