Kerry entertained Limerick at Tralee rugby club in an exciting cup match. Limerick batted first and their batsman failed to dominate in the same way they did in a recent league match.
Excellent Kerry bowling, along with helpful bowling conditions, ensured runs were hard to get. Shakeel Dar was exceptional finishing with 8 overs 10 runs 3 wickets. Eddie Garczynski took two wickets in his first over and finished with 5 overs 9 runs 2 wickets.Captain Richard Rutland had 4 overs 9 runs 2 wickets.
Limerick struggled to 85 for 9 but a last wicket partnership in which John Daley scored 26 took them to 117. A simple missed catch at 86 proving decisive.
In reply Kerry struggled as much as the visitors had. Good bowling, as well as poor batting saw Kerry at 21 for4. Owais Gohar(32) And Ahsan Memon (14) took them to 77 before Gohar was bowled. Still the game ebbed and flowed and at 92 for 8 it was anyones game..The last wicket patnership nudged the score to114 then Darragh Lynch was bowled.
The defeat by 4 runs was disappointing but certainly from an entertainment point of view this was first rate,
There are two matches this week at Tralee rugby club. Thursday a 20 over match between Tralee and Kilcolman starting at 6.30 and next Sunday at 1pm Kerry entertain Clare.
