Weekend results 23Rd /24th June

Co Kerry had two home matches at O’Dowd park this weekend. Their Division 2 match on Sunday was against high flying Nenagh. Kerry batted first and on a pitch offering bounce and conditions that encouraged the ball to swing found it tough going. Nenagh excellent bowlers never allowed Kerry to get away and every run had to be earned. Sajid Javed (11) and Eddie Garczynski (12) made slow progress and it took 25 overs before Kerry reached 50.Contributions from Sean Rutland (19) Qassim Butt (22) and Ian Rutland (18) ensured Kerry made 127 but disappointingly they failed to use their overs up. There was a general sense that perhaps we were 30 runs below par.
In reply Nenagh got off to a bad start their opener being well caught by Richard Rutland . This was Sajid Javeds first wicket, his next ball got his second and that was the end of the over. Next ball from Sean Rutland also took a wicket leaving Nenagh struggling at 13 for3 Javed continued to torment with superb pace and movement, ably asssisted by Sean Rutland. Nenagh contributed to their own downfall with some poor shot selection and appeared unlucky with one LBW decision which appeared to have hit the bat. Javed finished with the superb figures of 9 overs 3 maidens 11 runs 7 wickets. Rutland took 2 for 17 and Nenagh were all out for 49.A great win for Kerry
Saturdays match against Limerick in Division 3 was played in more difficult conditions, the constant drizzle and damp outfield limited Kerrys total to 108. Qassim Butt scored 43 and showed excellent and mature shot selection, Eddie Garczynski supported with a solid 23.Limericks reply made a mockery of the difficulties Kerry batting suffered, the quality of their batting had to be admired and they easily made the total, winning by seven wickets
